Changelog
Every release, newest first. The notes are the ones that shipped with each version.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Open files from a reply with one click
- File paths in an agent’s reply open with a single click — no more ⌘. The file opens in a pane beside the chat, and focus stays on the conversation.
- A reply that names only a file is matched by name: a single match opens, several go to Files search.
- URLs wrapped in backticks are clickable like any other link.
DeepSeek Harness works again
- DeepSeek Harness 0.2 failed to start with
expected value at line 1 column 1. Kumo now talks to it over its native ACP mode. Replies arrive in one piece, and past conversations aren’t replayed. - The model picker shows up again for backends that group their models.
Fixes
- Agents spawned by another agent no longer send system notifications. Their result goes back to the agent that started them.
- Typing
mainor an existing branch in Chat Home opens that workspace instead of failing with “already used”. Existing branches are listed in their own section. - Closing a workspace with a quick double-click on × no longer leaves an “unknown workspace” error in the next composer.
- The terminal no longer prints stray
1;2cor11;rgb:…after you switch tabs. - Kumo’s background process is more robust: a busy moment no longer gets it replaced, it never runs twice, and it recovers if its socket file is removed. A Workspace terminal no longer disappears because of this.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Fixes
- Remote Control: when your Mac reconnects, your phone reloads its content instead of staying on what it showed before.
- Remote Control: the phone page updates itself when you come back to it after a new version is out. Before, a home-screen app could run old code for days.
- A stray background copy of Kumo could keep answering your paired phone with day-old state. It now quits on its own.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Pilots
- The + menu at the top right of the Pilots page is gone. Create Pilots and groups from Chat Home’s Pilot mode instead.
Fixes
- The built-in browser no longer goes blank now and then when you switch between pages.
- Back, forward, navigation and zoom in the built-in browser run in the order you trigger them.
- When a menu or dialog covers the browser, it shows a snapshot of the page instead of an empty area.
- An agent reopening a page in the built-in browser no longer sometimes waits 5 seconds and gets an untitled page.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Merged workspaces are marked
- A workspace whose branch is already in your main branch gets a green check and fades in the sidebar. Local merges, fast-forwards and GitHub merges — including rebase and squash — all count; Kumo checks the remote quietly every 5 minutes.
- Closing a merged workspace no longer warns about uncommitted work being lost.
Sending from Chat Home feels instant
- Your message becomes a bubble right away and the composer slides into place while the workspace and agent are still starting. If sending fails, the text goes back into the composer.
- The same goes for Pilots: the Pilots page opens with your message already there.
Pilots
- Paste images and drop files in Pilot chats, groups, Chat Home’s Pilot mode and New chat. Pilots see the images.
- The Pilots page has Terminal, Related agents and Browser too. Links and files in a Pilot’s reply open right on the page.
- In group chats your messages sit on the right.
Fixes
- Text fields no longer autocorrect, auto-capitalize or suggest completions.
- Pi and DeepSeek Harness offer the thinking levels each model actually supports, and pick up model changes in the CLI. Started from Finder, they now see API keys exported in your shell profile.
- The right-side panel and tool pills no longer cover Chat Home.
- Sidebar group rows no longer overlap their pin icon.
- The tour is updated for the new interface and, after an update, only shows the pages you haven’t seen.
- Chat Home’s branch picker shows the name you typed.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Start a chat from Chat Home
- Chat Home replaces the welcome screen and the New dialog: ⌘N, the round New button, or a Board tab’s + all land on one page — pick an agent and a folder in the capsule, then just type.
- An Agent | Pilot switch sits above the greeting. In Pilot mode your first message opens a one-time setup chat instead of a guide Pilot; close it and it’s gone.
- The model and mode options show up as soon as you pick an agent, instead of after its first session.
- A Board’s New chat tab is the same page, pre-filled with that workspace (and you can switch it). Closing it never asks.
- The greeting changes with the time of day.
A simpler sidebar
- Two buckets now: Working and Recent. A blue unread count replaces the colored dots — turns you haven’t read for agents, new messages for Pilots and groups — and rows no longer jump around when something needs you.
- Agents dispatched by a Pilot stay out of the sidebar and don’t send notifications when they finish; the Pilot reports back in its own chat. If one is blocked on you, you’re still notified.
- Conversations are named after what they’re about; Rename sets your own title.
- Places is Projects again. A clean workspace closes right away from its ×, with Undo. Add a project from Chat Home or ⇧⌘O.
Pilots and groups
- “Needs you” now marks the exact message waiting for you. A floating “N Needs you” pill jumps to it, and clicking a sidebar unread count opens the chat right there.
- Pilots can use your skills in
~/.agents/skills, with the ones you use most listed first. - @mentions in group chats are matched more reliably: Chinese text, any letter case, longest name first, and never inside code blocks.
- Routing in group chats is better at handing work to the right member.
Fixes
- The “Reopening” banner no longer flashes when an agent starts.
- Code blocks whose opening line contains a backtick render correctly.
- The START FROM GITHUB section no longer spins forever when GitHub can’t be reached.
- With your first project added, Chat Home selects it for you.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Claude sessions cost fewer tokens
- Idle agents now keep their process for 24 hours instead of 30 minutes (Settings → General → Sleep idle agents; 0 still means never). Every process restart resumes the Claude session, and a resumed session rebuilds its system context — the whole prompt cache is rewritten at full price. Far fewer restarts, far fewer rewrites.
- Claude sessions no longer force-enable the TodoWrite/Task tools. Those tool schemas sat in every request, raising the cost of every cache write and read. The trade-off: the plan card and Tasks panel stay empty for Claude sessions.
- For the remaining gap between turns, Claude Code’s one-hour prompt cache can be pinned with
CLAUDE_CODE_PROMPT_CACHE_TTL=1hin your Claude settings.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
A new look: Sky
- Kumo has a new visual language, end to end: a calm sky behind two floating cards, new colors, and spring-based motion everywhere.
- Every screen was redrawn — the sidebar, Board, Settings, Tasks, Agentflows, Pilots, dialogs, menus, and toasts.
- With no projects yet, a welcome screen greets you: Add a project, Set up pilots with chat, and Take the tour.
- All animations are about 20% snappier.
Sidebar
- Conversations sort themselves into three buckets — Needs you, Working, Recent — so what needs attention is always on top.
- Projects and workspaces live in a Places card; Tasks and Agentflows get their own cards.
- Switching between paired Macs moved into the brand-row menu. Search and New sit at the top.
Board
- Tabs are now a row of floating chips with a sliding selection; the focused pane in a split gets an accent ring.
- Side panels became tool cards: one at a time, opened from a pill of icons at the top right of the conversation.
- The composer folds into a capsule that shows your draft’s first line, and grows into a card when you type. Queued messages, chips, and the context meter live in its tray.
- Sleeping agents show a Wake banner above the composer. Hover the quota meter for a usage card with all your windows and reset times.
- An agent’s consecutive turns group into one card with its avatar; your messages are bubbles on the right.
- Press ⌘K for a command palette: jump to any pilot, group, agent, workspace, or task, or run common actions. Recent jumps are remembered.
Tasks and Agentflows
- Tasks got a full page: filter presets, rows grouped by project, and details in a 420-wide tool card.
- The Agentflow canvas now flows top to bottom; flows saved with the old left-to-right layout are converted automatically. The inspector is a tool card opened from a single pill in the header.
Pilots
- The Pilots page was redesigned: chat bubbles, a floating group header capsule, and Profile, Memory, and Members as tool cards.
- In group chats, the face of whoever speaks next flies into the stream from the header.
- “Waiting for you” is said once, in a small chip above the composer — no more gray lines scattered through the chat.
Settings
- A larger window with a sliding section list, grouped cards, and keyboard navigation: ↑↓ switch sections, Enter confirms.
- Each agent row now shows the backend’s subscription quota next to its version, so you can see limits before you hit them.
Fixes
- Finished thinking lines no longer pile up in the conversation.
- Clicking a row no longer makes the sidebar’s Pilots and groups briefly vanish and bounce back.
- A running agent’s avatar is no longer clipped at the conversation’s left edge.
- Tool pills no longer hover over the welcome screen.
- Agent names survive narrow sidebars; the Tasks and Agentflows cards no longer overflow one either.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Pilots run on Kumo’s own engine
- Pilots no longer borrow a coding agent. They run on a fast model built into Kumo, so there’s no agent or mode to pick. Pick a model in Edit pilot, or leave it on Default.
- Pilots need a Kumo account now. Sign in from Settings › Account. Still free during the beta, with a daily quota that resets at 00:00 UTC.
- Long chats stay fast. Older turns get summarized in the background while the Pilot keeps answering.
- Memory is tidier: Pilots keep a list of what they remember, and you can open each entry from the MEMORY section.
- Before changing code, a Pilot opens a worktree and hands the work to an agent. It never edits your main checkout.
- When something goes wrong, the chat says what happened: not signed in, out of quota, or the model service is down.
- Your existing Pilots and their chats move over on their own.
Agents can use the Browser
- Every agent gets a browser tool. It opens, reads, clicks, types and takes screenshots in the Browser panel, using your logged-in pages.
- When an agent opens a page in the Workspace you’re looking at, the Browser panel shows it right away. Your cursor stays in the composer.
- Full-page screenshots: the agent can capture a long page screen by screen.
- Dev servers,
ghand scripts that open a browser now open the page inside Kumo instead of your default browser.
Browser shortcuts
- With a page focused: ⌘R reload, ⌘[ / ⌘] back and forward, ⌘L address bar, ⌘T new tab, ⌘= / ⌘− / ⌘0 zoom.
- On the Board and in the terminal, those keys work as before.
Fixes
- Error messages that were still in Chinese are now in English.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Pilots on your phone
- Remote Control now has Pilots. Open the drawer, tap Pilots, and chat with a Pilot or a group from your phone.
- Group chats show who picked up each message, quoted replies and the Who’s next? card. Permission requests show up in the chat, same as on the Mac.
- The drawer row tells you when a group is waiting for you or a Pilot is still working.
- Tap + to set up Pilots with the built-in guide.
- Widgets show their title on the phone. Open them on the Mac.
Groups
- While a member waits for an Agent it sent work to, the group keeps going. The result comes back as a reply to the message that sent the work.
- Reply picks the thread. Who answers next is still up to Smart routing, or the member you replied to when it’s off.
- A runtime restart no longer hands the same message to a member twice.
Fixes
- Pilot replies stream in smoothly, like on the Board, instead of arriving in lumps.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Pilots (beta)
- A Pilot is a teammate with a role, its own chat and its own memory, running on the CLI you pick. When there’s code to change, it starts Agents in Workspaces and collects their results.
- Put a few Pilots in a group. Send one message and Kumo decides who picks it up next, when to stop and when it’s your turn. Turn off Smart routing to choose with
@or a Who’s next? card. - Not sure where to start? Set up with chat: tell the built-in guide what you’re working on. It proposes Pilots and a group, creates them once you agree, and can hand the group its first job.
- A new Pilot says hello in its role as soon as it’s created.
- Pilots live in a new PILOTS section of the left sidebar, next to PROJECTS. Pin the ones you use most, show one or two lines per row, and fold either section.
- Replies can carry widgets, permission requests show right in the chat, and Stop is the send button, same as the Board.
- Change a Pilot’s model, effort or mode any time. Switching its backend keeps its memory and the recent conversation.
- Pilots need you to sign in. They’re free during the beta.
Quieter conversations
- Tool calls no longer fill the conversation. Only the Kumo actions an Agent takes, like starting another Agent or sending it work, still get a line.
- The
Thinking · 12sline is gone. Three dots at the end show the Agent is still working.
Smaller changes
- A new chime for unread Agents: three rising notes.
- Markdown files that start with YAML frontmatter preview it as a code block instead of a divider and a big heading.
- The Quit runtime menu item is gone. Quit Kumo from the menu bar still stops everything.
Fixes
- Streaming replies no longer show up two or three times, and your message no longer lands in the middle of a reply.
- When the runtime restarts, conversations pick up where they left off, including results from Agents that finished in the meantime. The runtime down banner clears by itself.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Widgets in replies
- Agents can now answer with a small interactive app right in the conversation: a chart of the numbers they just gathered, a comparison you can switch between, a slider to try a trade-off, a status board, or a review summary with the next steps as buttons. Ask for one, or let the Agent reach for it when seeing beats reading.
- It works with every backend. Kumo tells each Agent how to write widgets, so there’s nothing to install or turn on.
- A widget draws as the Agent writes it and comes alive once it’s complete. Keep scrolling, let the turn finish, or let the Agent run more tools: the slider you dragged stays where you left it.
- Widgets look like Kumo and follow your light or dark theme. Hover one to see its size, view its Source, or Reload it.
- A button in a widget puts its message at the end of your message box for that Agent. Nothing is sent until you press Return. Links open in the Browser. Both only work after you click inside the widget.
- Widgets run in a sandbox with no access to your conversation or to Kumo itself. In Tasks, plan cards and Remote Control on your phone they show as code.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
See what each turn changed
- Every Agent reply now ends with a line saying how many lines that turn added and removed. Click it to list the files, and click a file to open a Diff Tab with just that turn’s changes.
- It works with every backend and counts files changed through Bash too. Your index, HEAD and stash are left alone.
Spawned Agents live where they work
- An Agent spawned into another Workspace now shows up under that Workspace, with its own Tab and a
↖mark naming the Agent that started it. Before, that Workspace looked empty. - The Agent that started it still shows it in its group. Click it there to open it in Related Agents, then use Open in to jump to its own Tab.
- Hover either end to see a line connecting them.
- Closing an Agent only closes the spawned Agents in the same Workspace. The confirmation names any that stay open elsewhere.
Settings, Remote, Usage and Update on every page
- These four buttons moved to the bottom of the left sidebar, so you can reach them from Tasks and Agentflows too, not just the Board.
- The Update button is now the whole action: hover to Download, watch the progress in the button, then Restart to update. If something goes wrong it says Try again. Hover it for the version and What’s new.
- When the sidebar is collapsed, a dot on the collapse button tells you another Mac is asking to connect.
Fixes
- Remote Control no longer goes down for hours at a time. Your Mac kept sending updates to phones and Macs that had already disconnected, which overloaded the relay for everyone.
- Turning on auto-allow while an Agent is still starting now sticks. Before, its permission requests could still stop and wait for you.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
See your token usage
- A new Usage button on the left rail shows how many tokens your Agents have spent in Kumo’s Projects and Workspaces: the last 7 days, 30 days, year, or all time. You get Input, Output, Cache hit, a value at API list price, a year-long heatmap, and a breakdown by backend and by Project.
- It covers Claude, Codex, Grok, Pi, OpenCode, Kilo Code, Goose, Gemini and Kimi Code. Kumo keeps its own daily totals, so the numbers stay even after a CLI clears old sessions. Projects you’ve removed are still counted and marked Removed.
- Click the context bar in the composer to see the current conversation: tokens and value split into fresh input, cache read, cache write and output, how much the cache saved, and how full the context window is.
- For Claude, the same popover shows what fills the context: system prompt, tools, MCP tools, custom agents, memory files, skills and messages. Click MCP tools, Skills, Memory files or Custom agents to see what’s inside. Other backends show the fixed overhead and the conversation.
- Grok’s context bar now fills in too.
Queued messages
- Messages waiting for the Agent to finish now sit in a tray inside the composer, above where you type.
- Hover a queued message and press × to drop it, or ✎ to pull it back into the input box with its images and edit it. ↑ in an empty box pulls back the last one. Clear all drops them all.
Pin Agents
- Right-click an Agent and choose Pin Agent to keep it at the top of the inbox, whatever it’s doing. Pinned Agents stay in the order you pinned them.
- Hover an Agent in the inbox or the tree to pin or close it right there.
A tour for first-time users
- The first time you open Kumo, a short tour walks you through it in six steps, each with a video. Reopen it from Show Tour in the app menu or Take the tour on the home screen.
- On a phone, Remote Control now shows how to add it to your Home Screen.
Smaller changes
- Agents in Related Agents have the same right-click menu as Agent Tabs, and you can double-click one to rename it.
- The diff view remembers Unified or Split and has an Open File button. In the Git panel, COMMITS sits at the bottom and opens instead of the change list.
- When an update is ready, its download button sits at the top of the rail’s bottom group.
Fixes
- Deleting a Workspace or closing a Project no longer leaves you on a blank page. Kumo goes back to where you were, or to another Workspace.
- Renaming a spawned Agent from the sidebar no longer renames the Agent that started it.
- Pages in the Browser no longer act as if they were Kumo’s own window. Paper previews and Tauri dev servers load as they would in a normal browser.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
A calmer Projects tree
- More room between Projects, and times are shorter: 5m, 4h, 37d.
- Click a Workspace row to collapse or expand it, the same as a Project. Double-click opens it. A collapsed Workspace shows how many Agents it’s hiding.
- The chevron moved to the end of the row. It appears on hover or when the row is collapsed.
- PROJECTS has just two buttons now. Search finds Projects, Workspaces and Agents by name or summary, and opens anything collapsed so you can see matches. + opens a menu with New Workspace, New Project and Import Project…. Project Settings moved to the right-click menu.
- A running Agent shows a spinning ring around its icon, in the sidebar and in Related Agents. Names no longer shimmer.
Notifications when the sidebar is collapsed
- The unread pill in the title bar is now a banner under it, floating over the Board. It lists the same Agents as the inbox. Several stack into a pile and spread out when you hover. Click one to jump to that Agent.
- Inbox rows put
Project · Workspaceon the same line as the name, aligned right. The second line is only the summary, and rows without one take a single line.
Fixes
- A conversation exactly one screen tall is no longer hidden under the composer. You can scroll to the end.
- Switching to another Mac closes open web pages instead of leaving them floating over the new window.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Fixes
- In the sidebar, Workspace names stand out more and Agent names are lighter, so it’s easier to tell which Agent belongs to which Workspace.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Work on another Mac from this one
- Pair two Macs signed in to the same Kumo account, then switch the whole window to the other one: its Projects, Workspaces, Agents and Board, as if you were sitting in front of it. Traffic goes through the same end-to-end encrypted relay as the phone.
- Pairing takes one step on each side. Press + on the Mac rail (or Pair Another Mac in Remote control › Mac), check the 6-digit code matches on both Macs, and press Pair on the other one. After that, either Mac can switch to the other without asking again.
- The Mac rail on the far left shows This Mac and your paired Macs. Click one to switch, click This Mac to come back. A badge tells you whether it’s online, still finishing pairing, or needs a Kumo update. Right-click to unpair. The rail is part of the sidebar, so it collapses and peeks out along with it.
- Notifications from the other Mac show up on the one you’re using, and clicking one opens that Agent.
- Unpairing on either Mac takes effect on both right away. Settings › Account › Macs lists every Mac signed in to your account, and removing one there also unpairs it.
Remote Control needs an account
- Remote Control, for both phones and Macs, now requires signing in. It’s still free during the beta. Signing out disconnects every remote session in both directions. Your pairings are kept, so you can pick up where you left off after you sign back in.
- A paired phone can no longer quit Kumo on your Mac, sign it in or out, or change pairings.
- If you move Kumo to a new Mac with Migration Assistant or Time Machine, the new Mac gets its own identity instead of sharing the old one’s.
A simpler sidebar
- The Agents section is now part of the Projects tree. Each Agent sits under its Workspace, in the order it was created.
- A new inbox at the top lists Agents that need you, have stopped with an error, have disconnected, or finished while you weren’t looking.
- Agents started by another Agent are grouped under it. The group stays collapsed until you open it. Closing the main Agent closes its group too, and Kumo asks first.
Related Agents in the right panel
- Agents started by another Agent no longer open their own Tabs. Click one in the sidebar, inbox or a notification to open it in Related Agents, next to the Agent that started it.
- Related Agents shows the whole group across the top. Below it you get the selected Agent’s conversation and its own composer, so you can read and reply without leaving the main Tab.
- The composer shows stacked avatars and
N relatedinstead of a list.
Agents reading each other
kumo readcan now read another Agent’s conversation by turn:--turnslists them,--turn Nreads one,--grepsearches. It wakes a sleeping Agent first, so the conversation is there to read.- Messages one Agent sends another now end with a short note on how to read the sender’s conversation for context.
Settings › Account
- Redesigned. Signed out, you see what an account gets you and a Sign in with browser button. Signed in, you see your email, plan, usage on Free, the Macs on your account, and Sign out.
Fixes
- The window’s traffic lights are back in line with the title bar.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
A browser in the right panel
- The right panel has a new Browser, with a tab strip per Workspace. You and your agents look at the same page with the same sign-in, right next to the conversation.
- Links in replies and in terminal output open here. Hold ⌘ to send a link to your default browser instead.
.htmlfiles open rendered: use Open in Browser in the file tree’s right-click menu or in a File Tab’s header. - ⇧⌘B shows or hides the Browser, and ⇧⌘L opens a blank tab with the cursor in the address bar. Use a blank tab to sign in to an internal site once. You stay signed in across restarts, and agents see the page signed in too.
- Settings › General › Pages › Clear removes the Browser’s cookies, storage and cache.
- When the Browser has focus, ⌘W closes the current page, not the window.
Comment on a page, send it to an agent
- Press the Comments button in the address bar, then + Comment, and click any element on the page. Type what should change, add more elements if you need to, then send them all to an agent at once.
- Each comment carries what an agent needs to find the element: a selector, its size and key styles, a trimmed copy of its HTML and a screenshot.
- Send delivers the comments as a new message with the screenshots attached. Add to draft adds them to the end of the agent’s draft so you can edit before sending. Copy as Markdown copies them to the clipboard.
Agents can use the browser
- Agents can open, read, click, type in, scroll and screenshot pages with
kumo browser. A page an agent opens is added quietly at the end of the tab strip, and the Browser button shows a count until you look. - Canvas editors like Figma or Google Docs don’t respond to agent clicks and typing.
Composer
- The
@list now shows Agents in this Workspace first, then related ones (ones the current agent started, or is waiting on). Agents in other Workspaces of the same Project appear once you type. Unrelated Agents in other Projects no longer appear.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Fixes
- Reopened conversations no longer show the agent’s own system messages (Claude task notifications and command output, Codex environment context) as bubbles you sent.
- When a pane gets shorter (resizing the window, splitting, dragging a divider), a conversation that was scrolled to the bottom stays there. The last lines no longer slip under the composer.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Setup scripts for new Workspaces
- Project settings have a new Setup Script field. Kumo runs it in a
setupterminal tab each time it creates a Workspace, so dependencies are installed and.envfiles are copied before you start. It stops at the first line that fails. - Press Suggest and Kumo reads the repo (lock files, submodules, ignored
.envfiles, Conductor or Cursor worktree configs) and fills in a script for you. Nothing is saved until you press Save. When you import a repo and Kumo can guess a script, project settings open with the script already filled in. - Agents in a new Workspace are told when setup is still running or has failed, and can wait for it to finish.
- Right-click a Workspace and choose Run setup script to run it again.
Sidebar
- Hover a Workspace row and press × to delete it. You get the same confirmation as before.
- A small light next to each Workspace name shows its most urgent Agent: needs you, error, running, or an unread reply.
- Uncommitted changes now show as a badge on the Git button in the right panel instead of a dot on the row.
- Select several Agents with ⇧-click or ⌘-click, then right-click to close or reopen them all at once. You confirm once.
Tabs and the composer
- Closing several Tabs that hold Agents asks once, not once per Agent.
- When Tabs don’t fit, the Tab bar scrolls sideways instead of squeezing them. The focused Tab always scrolls into view.
- The unread badge moved to the title bar, so it no longer covers the composer in a narrow pane.
- When a pane is too narrow for the composer’s options, the extra ones move into a
⋯menu. - An empty composer shows the shortcuts:
@,#,/and Shift+Enter. - Panels, menus and dialogs open and close with the same smooth motion throughout the app.
- The New Agent popover resizes smoothly when you switch screens and no longer flickers.
Fixes
- Pressing Enter to pick a word in an input method (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) no longer sends the message.
- A plain folder you later run
git initin now becomes a git Project, so you can create Workspaces in it. - The update dialog links to What’s new for the version you’re installing.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Fixes
- In-app updates no longer show Restart before the new version is in place. Restarting too early cut the install short and Kumo came back on the old version.
Updating from 0.26.0 or earlier still uses the old button: after the download finishes, wait about ten seconds before you press Restart.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
A composer in every Agent Tab
- Each Agent Tab in a split Board now has its own composer, floating over the conversation instead of one shared box at the bottom of the Board.
- It starts two lines tall and grows with your draft, up to 40% of its pane.
- Scroll up to read back and it folds into a single line. Click it, focus it or scroll back to the bottom to open it again. The last message is never hidden under it.
- Cite now switches to the Agent Tab it cites into, and a file dragged in from Finder is cited by the pane you drop it on.
Agents talking to agents
- When an agent hands work to another agent and asks to hear back, the reply arrives once. The agent doing the work no longer sends its result a second time.
- The status of a reply (
done, needs, error) sits in theFROMlabel above the bubble, and the bubble shows only the reply. - Messages from another agent render as markdown on the Mac and on your phone, instead of showing raw backticks.
- An agent’s row summary no longer starts with the
[from …]prefix of the work it was handed. Sent tolines in Related Agents name the agent instead of showing its id.
Remote Control
- The Remote panel now says that closing the lid still puts the Mac to sleep and drops the link, and gives the Terminal command to keep it awake with the lid closed if you want that. The Remote Control docs explain the trade-off.
Account
- Upgrade opens the new pricing page at amkumo.com/pricing.
- A sign-in link from email now asks you to press Continue before it signs you in, so a mail scanner that opens links first can’t use it up.
- Removing a Mac from your account on the web takes two clicks.
- If a payment fails while your card is being retried, you keep Personal until the end of the period you paid for.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Ready for the end of the beta
- From 1 Nov, Remote Control is part of Kumo Personal. If this Mac’s plan doesn’t include it, the Remote panel and your phones say
Subscription endedinstead of trying to connect, and they pick up again on their own once the plan is back. - Your plan catches up within a minute of paying: Kumo checks again when you bring the window forward or open Settings → Account, instead of waiting for the daily renewal.
- The daily renewal now follows the clock, not the time the Mac spent awake, so a paid plan no longer slips back to Free now and then on a Mac that sleeps a lot.
Account
- Opening a sign-in link only replaces your account once the new sign-in checks out. A stray link can no longer sign you out.
- If you remove this Mac from your account on the web, Settings → Account says
This Mac was signed out from your account.instead of still showing you signed in. - With two phones paired, the Remote panel says
Two phones is the limit. Unpair one to add another.instead of showing a QR code a third phone can’t use.
Remote Control
- Kumo keeps this Mac from idling into sleep while a phone is paired, so the link survives a locked screen. The Remote panel warns that this drains the battery faster when unplugged. It lets go when Remote Control is off.
Fixes
- Right-clicking a row in the peeked-out sidebar no longer folds the sidebar away from under the menu.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Fixes
- With the sidebar collapsed and peeking out on hover, moving the pointer to the collapse button no longer folds the sidebar away from under it.

A new look
- A new Kumo mark: a cloud split into three lobes, for the agents sharing one workbench, by channels that bend into one point, for the work flowing between them. It’s the app icon, the menu bar icon, and the icon on your phone’s home screen.
- The menu bar icon is now the same size as its neighbours.
- The cloud and “Kumo” sit in the sidebar’s title row, beside the window buttons, and fold away with the sidebar. The collapse button now sits on the sidebar’s right edge.
- Adding Remote Control to your home screen no longer leaves a ring around the icon on iOS and Android.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Remote Control, rebuilt
- The phone page now does what the desk does: a drawer with your Projects and Workspaces, a Workspace page with its Agents, diffs and files, Tasks with their actions, Agentflow runs as a step list you can approve from, and Settings.
- The composer on the phone has
@for files, Agents and@new:, photos, Related Agents, the ledger lines, and the New Agent menu with Resume. - Lays itself out by width: one column on a phone, list and detail side by side on an iPad, a docked sidebar on a laptop. Fold the sidebar or the list away to give a chat, a file or a diff the whole width; it’s remembered per device.
- Back is your browser’s Back. Confirmations are proper sheets, not browser pop-ups.
- Chat follows new output only while you’re at the bottom; scroll up and a
New outputpill takes you back. Your message shows up the moment you send it, and older turns load on request.
Chat reads better
- Markdown is rendered properly: numbered lists keep their numbers, tables get a full grid and a distinct header, task lists keep the checkbox beside the text, and nested lists and code fences no longer break apart.
- Replies stream at an even pace that adapts to how fast each backend actually sends, instead of dumping a burst and standing still until the next one. Same on the desk and the phone.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
New Agent menu
+in the tab bar (and ⌘N, and the button in an empty window) opens a menu instead of a dialog: a name on top, then one row per backend with the model and effort you used last. Click a row to start right away, or›to pick model, effort, mode, or a session to resume.- Settings → Agents: drag to reorder. The first one is the default, and the
+menu follows the same order. - Model lists refresh every time a backend reports them, so renamed or retired models drop out of the menu.
Hand a spawn to an Agent
- Type
@new:<name>in the composer to set up an Agent for the one you’re talking to: a card lets you pick backend, model, effort and mode, and on send the Agent spawns it with exactly those settings. kumo spawntakes--model,--effortand--mode.--helpprints usage instead of spawning.
Related Agents
- A new button on the right rail (and the
N outcapsule in the composer) opens Related Agents: the Agents this one spawned and the ones it’s waiting on. Click one to read its chat right there;Open tabputs it beside the current one so you can reply. - When an Agent drives Kumo — sends work, spawns an Agent — the chat shows one ledger line per action instead of a folded tool call: what it did, to whom, and how it went. Sends and spawns show the message that was handed over, with the full text on hover. Agents named by id show their name and open in Related Agents.
Fixes
- The composer sits on the same background as the panels above it.
- Model menus keep their search box at full height.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Diff Tabs
- Unified or Split. Split puts the old side on the left and the new one on the right, lined up change by change.
- Select lines in a patch and the same
Citefloat the File Tab has comes up, so you can hand an Agent the exact lines. - The file name in the header opens the file itself in a File Tab.
Files
- The crosshair in the FILES header reveals whatever file the foreground Tab is showing: the folders along the way open themselves and the row lands in the middle of the sidebar. Handy after finding a file through search.
Report a bug
Report a bugnow collects the runtime and GUI logs for you: they go on the clipboard as one file, and the GitHub form opens with your version, your macOS version and the tail of the log already filled in. Paste or attach the file — that part still needs your GitHub session.
Fixes
- Kumo remembers its window size between launches.
- Reopening Kumo no longer leaves a second icon in the Dock.
- The composer no longer moves: the draft box is a fixed two lines and a long draft scrolls inside it, and the quota rail no longer pushes the composer up.
- The quota rail shows its captions on hover instead of pinning them open when a window is running tight.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
About Kumo
- Settings has a new About page: version, a
Check for updatesbutton that turns into Download / Restart once a new version is found, and links to the site, docs, changelog, bug reports, feature requests and email. - Feedback moved here from Account.
- Settings is larger, and a click outside no longer closes it. Use Done or Esc.
Workspaces
- File Tabs survive switching Workspaces, the same way Diff Tabs do. Before, going to an Agent in another Workspace lost them for good.
- New Workspace no longer freezes the app while git checks out a big repo. The Create button shows it’s working until the tree is ready.
- The Tasks row in the sidebar has a
+on hover to open New task.
Fixes
- Reopening Kumo from the Dock or Applications after closing its window brings the window back. Before, nothing happened.
- Links in a rendered
.mdfile are clickable again.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
@ a Workspace or a Project
- The
@list in the composer now has Workspaces and Projects next to Agents. Picking one sends its path, so you can tell an agent where the work should happen. - A bare
@shows every section at once; Agents drop to three rows until you start typing. - Workspace rows show their project and path, so two
maintrees from different repos no longer look the same. - Agent chips carry their backend’s icon, and all chip icons are larger and sit on the text line.
Open a Workspace on a Task any time
Start a Workspace…is always available on a Task, even after an Agentflow run has touched it. Before, the button disappeared once a Task had anything under it.- New Workspace lists this project’s open Tasks above issues, PRs and branches. Picking one fills the dialog the same way Start does, and the new tree joins that Task.
- Starting a Workspace on a PR Task checks out the PR’s branch instead of making a local
pull-Nbranch. - Starting a Workspace on an issue that wasn’t cached yet now links the tree to its Task.
Fixes
- Links in a rendered
.mdfile open in your browser. Before, they replaced the whole window with the page and there was no way back. - Links in the terminal open in your browser. Before, clicking them did nothing.
- Relative links like
docs/../x.mdopen the existing tab instead of a second one.
Look
- The Git panel shows the file name first, with its folder dimmed after it.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Talk a Task or an Agentflow into existence
- New task gains a
Manual / Chatswitch. In Chat, describe the work in a sentence and an agent turns it into one or more Tasks withkumo task new. - The Agentflow editor’s Generate moved out of the corner popup into the same dialog. Its entry is the
Chatbutton on the canvas toolbar, which also shows the agent’s backend, state and status word. Closing the dialog keeps the agent; it is only replaced when you open another flow. - Both dialogs share one layout: header, transcript, composer and actions, with the same agent and model picker as New Agent.
- The agent asks before acting when the request is unclear: purpose, entry, split of work, routing, backend and working directory for a flow; how many Tasks, acceptance, project and background for a Task.
Fixes
- Clicking an agent under AGENTS on the Tasks page now switches to its Tab. Before, the Tab changed underneath the page and nothing seemed to happen.
- Hints Kumo injects for the agent are hidden from the bubble on both dialogs; only what you typed is shown.
Look
- Join worktrees uses a branch icon instead of a folder. Import under PROJECTS gets a folder with a plus.
- Icons in the right rail are aligned to one size; the Agentflow icon is lighter; the git icon’s branch line meets the node at its centre.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Sidebar
- Drag Projects and Workspaces to reorder them. A Workspace stays inside its Project. The order is saved and survives a restart.
- Tasks now sits above Agentflows. Both rows are a little larger, with new icons.
Tasks in the composer
- Type
#to pick a Task of the current Project: the recently active ones first, searchable by number or title. It is inserted as@task:#N. - A Workspace started from a Task gets a Task block at the top of its first prompt, telling the agent which Task it is on and how to read and update it with
kumo task. kumo task showwith no argument shows the Task of the agent’s own Workspace.kumo lsprintstask=#Non the tree line.
Glass
- Glass defaults to 90 for everyone, including existing installs. A slider you set yourself is kept as is.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Frosted glass
- The window is now a sheet of matte glass over your desktop. Settings › APPEARANCE gains a
Glassslider: 0 is the solid look you had before, 100 lets as much through as stays readable. - The gradients are gone. Panels are separated by hairlines instead, and the running shimmer became a soft pulse.
- The window’s material follows the theme you pick, so light Kumo on a dark desktop stays readable.
Systemstill follows macOS.
Messages
- Your own bubbles are a little darker and more solid than the panels, so text stays on a steady base while the glass shifts behind it. Dark and light get their own tuning.
- A long message (over 12 lines or 800 characters) folds to 12 lines with a
Show moreunder it. Pasted code and long prose both count.
Tasks page
- The list and the detail column split the page half and half. On a wide window the detail no longer sits in a thin strip at the right.
- The detail column is on the same glass as the rest, in both themes.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Agentflows: one run, many chains
- A node that emits several matching outputs now fans out into several chains inside the same run, each on its own worktree branch. Before, a second output overwrote the first.
- Outputs are routed when the node’s turn ends, not while it is still typing. A node’s
emitis collected first and routed together. - Node cards show
×Nand a3 done · 1 running · 1 queuedline when a node ran more than once. The colour is the worst of them. - Select a node and the right column lists its executions: chain, status, why it is blocked, and
Approve / Reject,Cancel,Rerunper chain. Click a row for that chain’s transcript. Cancelon one chain leaves its siblings running.Rerunon a run that has not finished reruns that chain in place, from its checkpoint, instead of starting a new run.- Approvals are one per chain. An edge can wait for the whole fan-out with
on: joined. - A flow has a
max_executionsbudget (default 50); a node that hits it shows asblocked. kumo runprints the current chain only: each step’s input, reply and emitted events, plus a count of child chains. Sibling chains no longer bleed into the ledger.- The phone page follows: pending approvals are listed per chain, and
blocked/queuedget their own colours.
Tasks become the centre
- Every open issue of a GitHub project is a Task as soon as it is seen. The candidate rows are gone.
- A Task has a stage:
new, planning, confirming, ready,in progress,in review, done. Change it from the dropdown in the detail column, fromkumo task edit --stage, or let a flow do it. Kumo only setsdonewhen the PR merges andnewwhen the issue is reopened. - Tasks emit events:
task.created,task.updated(with what changed),task.done,task.deleted. A flow can start on any of them; the node inspector offers them in a dropdown, with a stage and a change filter fortask.updated. - One live run per flow and Task. An event for a Task that is already running in that flow waits for the run to finish, then is re-evaluated.
Run flowon a running Task saysThat task is already running in this flow. - A run started by a Task event lands on the Task’s Workspace when it has one. Events from that run carry the Task with them.
- The detail column gains ACTIVITY: bus events, run milestones, commits on its Workspaces and agent starts and stops, newest first, each a link. It refreshes live while open.
- The Tasks page shows the stage next to the activity pip, filters on
stage:and has aConfirmingchip. kumo task new --source github:issue#Nandkumo task edit --stage;kumo task list --stageandshowprint the stage and recent activity.- A flow only sees events from its own project, so a flow on repo A no longer fires on repo B’s issues.
Fixes
- Cancelling a chain that has no
joinededge downstream no longer leaves the run open forever. - A diamond flow (
a → b, c → d) delivers both triggers tod; the second used to be dropped whiledwas still running. - A node that emitted an event and then failed is no longer counted as rescued by the edge for that event.
- A node blocked behind a join returns to
donewhen the join fires. - A restart no longer marks a node that is still booting as finished.
- A Task you deleted does not come back on the next issue poll.
- In fixed-directory flows, two chains of the same node no longer clash on the agent name.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Sidebar right-click menus
- Right-click a Project head for
New WorkspaceandClose Project. - Right-click a Workspace row for
Rename WorkspaceandDelete Workspace. Renaming only changes the sidebar label;mainkeeps following its branch.
Agents get a name
- New Agent prefills a random name instead of the backend’s, skipping names already used in that tree. The dice inside the field rerolls it.
- New Workspace names its first Agent in the same form, under
FIRST AGENT. - An Agent created blank from the CLI (
kumo spawn) is named by the runtime from the same pool.
New Workspace reclaims a branch
- Creating a Workspace on a branch that another worktree still holds no longer fails. A stale worktree record is pruned; a live one is moved to the new path, uncommitted work included. Only the main checkout’s own branch is still refused.
Composer
- Picking a slash command swaps only the leading
/token; whatever was typed after it stays. - A known
/commandand the@file, agent and image refs are painted in one accent colour in the draft, no pills. The same accent is used for inline paths, quotes and the focused Window frame. - A pasted absolute path only becomes a file cite when the caret sits in an open
@mention. Pasting/api/v1/usersis left alone.
kumo CLI for agents
kumo send --notifyandkumo spawn --notify: when the target stops, the runtime posts its last reply back into the sender’s queue as a new prompt. No more polling withwaitto collect a result.kumo task list / show / new / edit / start / done / deleteandkumo projects.--projectpicks another Project by name, id or path.
Fixes
- A prompt ending in a space (slash fill and
@chips leave one) no longer shows as twoYOUbubbles. - Ask cards show option descriptions in full instead of cutting them to one line.
- The backend picker in dialogs matches the input height.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
GitHub: start from an issue or a pull request
- The New Workspace picker lists your project’s open issues and pull requests above its branches, when the repo lives on GitHub and
ghis signed in. - Pick one and the branch is chosen for you: a PR uses its head branch (forks are fetched and added as a remote so push goes back to them), an issue gets a local
<N>-<slug>branch. The first prompt is prefilled, the sidebar shows#N. - A banner warns when a fork PR has maintainer edits turned off.
- Settings gains an Integrations row that shows whether the
ghCLI is ready.
Tasks
- A Tasks page under Agentflows, and a Task panel in the right rail for the current Workspace.
- Select a task and the detail column opens beside the list: its pull request, its Workspaces, the description and the comments. Comments are read only; replying stays on GitHub.
- From a task you can start a Workspace, run an agentflow, hand it to an agent, merge its PR, or close it. A task with no Workspace leads with
Start a Workspace…. - Tasks are polled on demand: only projects that an online agentflow or a task cares about are checked, and unchanged lists cost nothing.
Agents keep their settings
- Model, effort and mode now stay with the Agent across a reopen, a wake from sleep and an automatic restart. Before, a restarted Tab came back on the CLI’s defaults.
- Automatic restarts after a crash are spaced out (1s, 4s, 16s) and forgotten once the Agent has been running for a minute, so an Agent that crashes once a month never runs out of retries.
- A dead Agent process is recognised as dead before the workbench reacts to it, so it always restarts, and Reopen no longer races the automatic restart.
The workbench stays responsive
- Stop and permission cards answer while a slow call (listing sessions, fetching quota, switching a model, pushing) is still running. Requests to the runtime no longer wait on each other.
- Waking a sleeping Agent no longer freezes the sidebar and the other Tabs while it boots.
- A backend that never answers
--versionis given up on after ten seconds, so Settings and the New Agent picker stop hanging on it. - A request that times out now says so instead of claiming the runtime is down.
Failed turns say why
- A failed turn shows the backend’s own reason under the question that failed, and gets its own bubble instead of marking the previous answer as failed.
- An Agent whose last turn failed no longer shows as
donein the AGENTS list.
Agents find the kumo skill on their own
- The runtime tells a fresh Agent that it is inside Kumo and where the kumo skill lives, and explains
@agent:mentions when they appear. Those hints are hidden from the transcript, the phone andkumo read.
Fixes
- A registry file that fails to parse is moved aside instead of being overwritten with an empty one, so a downgrade no longer wipes your Projects and Agents.
- Long messages replayed from a backend’s history keep their full body in the Tab.
- Attached files now reach Pi and DeepSeek Harness. An image sent to Harness ends the turn with a clear message instead of being silently dropped.
- The DeepSeek Harness bridge no longer dies on a reply containing Chinese text, and a harness that never answers times out instead of hanging the turn.
- Free text typed into a Pi input prompt is sent as typed, not as the word
Other. - Answering a question from the phone now works on grok and Pi.
- Switching a model on an Agent that has not started yet can no longer deadlock the runtime.
Look
- The app uses the Mac system font (SF Pro) instead of Sora: better at UI sizes, one less network request at startup, and identical offline.

Workflows are now Agentflows
- Same thing, new name, everywhere you can see it: the sidebar, the page, and the phone.
One page for Agentflows
- The separate list page and the fixed right rail are gone. Agentflows is one page: a list column on the left, the canvas filling the rest, and the inspector floating at the bottom-right.
- Each agentflow in the list is a card with its online toggle and a run history that slides open underneath.
- When the canvas gets too narrow, the inspector folds into a pill. Tap it and the inspector opens as a full-cover sheet.
- Save, Revert, and Run once live in the page header. Going online lives on the card. A run’s menu only offers Delete.
Open in projectsits in the page header while you watch a run, so it’s reachable whatever the inspector is showing.- Opening a run history, toggling online, and folding the inspector all animate. Reduced motion turns it all off.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Fixes
- The phone page works again. It was speaking an older protocol than the workbench, so it showed a green
Linkedwith three empty tabs; now it reads the protocol from the workbench, and a failed pull says what went wrong instead of showing nothing. /clearnow clears the message rail on the right too, instead of leaving marks for messages that are no longer there.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Agents sleep when idle
- An Agent that sits idle for a while (30 minutes by default, set in Settings; 0 = never) has its process closed. The conversation stays in the Tab. Your next message wakes it, with a
Waking up · 3sline while it comes back. - The AGENTS list now shows which Agents actually have a process behind them: grey when asleep, blue with a pulse when running, red for errors.
- A soft chime plays when an Agent needs you or finishes. It rings once per new unread, not for the ones already waiting when you open Kumo.
Take over a workflow run
Open in projecton a run hands you its working folder as an ordinary Workspace. Open Agents on it like anywhere else and finish the job by hand — whether the run is running, stuck, or done.- Once you’ve taken a folder over, the engine leaves it alone: it isn’t swept away when the run ends, and
Rerun from a node…refuses to wipe uncommitted work. - A banner across the top of the Board tells you which workflow and run the folder belongs to, with
Reply ›when a node is waiting on you. Once the run is over it shows for five seconds and folds away. - Your own folder stops being a run’s site once the run is over — no banner, no note before your first message.
kumo runprints the whole picture of the run an Agent is in: every node’s state, its last message, checkpoint, and recent events.
Composer
- The @ list holds still: agents and files sit under their own headings, with the backend mark on each agent row, and the highlight no longer jumps when file matches arrive.
- The / list fits its panel. Long descriptions unfold with the chevron or → on the keyboard.
- Cursor tabs get a Force switch in the composer: skip its permission prompts for that tab without a restart. Turning it off really restores asking.
And
- Enter confirms a dialog, the same as clicking its solid button. Escape closes it. Red buttons still take a real click.
- Signing in brings Kumo to the front and lands you on the Account page.
- The paid plan is called Personal.
- Closing or moving out a split pane’s last tab now removes the empty pane.
Everything is free while Kumo is in beta — no account needed. Until 1 Nov 2026.
Sign in & plans
- Sign in to Kumo with GitHub, Google, or your email. Your plan follows you to this Mac, and Settings shows which account you’re signed in as.
- Free and Pro plans are in place for after the beta: Free covers 3 projects, 3 worktrees each, 5 agents, and 1 workflow; Pro removes the limits and unlocks Remote Control. During the beta none of this applies — it’s all open.
Working with tabs
- Right-click a Tab to close the ones beside it, or all of them.
- Reopen or restart a Tab and it still picks the model you chose last time.
On the phone
- Read the Agent’s files and pictures — on the desk and on the phone.
- Read workflows from the phone: history, gates, node transcripts.
- Come back from the background with the conversation caught up.
- The unread float pulses, and remembers where you came from.
And
- Walk the whole trail back, or drop it in one go.
- Agents can ask you multiple-choice questions again.
- A fresh coat of cobalt blue.
- Report a bug from the app menu — it opens a pre-filled GitHub issue.
